Wow George Bush, $600-$1200 bucks! Did you think of that all by yourself? Of course not, but you'll take credit for this latest half-assed attempt to stabilize the US Economy. This so called Stimulus Package is less than what the US spent in Iraq this year and it's supposed to keep us from recession? How is giving us a rent check going to stop the slide? Most people I know eligible for this "refund" have little or no money invested, they can't afford it. I'd say put it in the bank but with the dollar so weak there is no guarantee that it won't evaporate in the next few years. What good is FDIC when $100,000 isn't a 100 grand anymore?
Do you know what six to twelve-hundred bucks is to people like us George Bush? Like I said above it is basically a rent check, hopefully with a little left over for a bill or two. This isn't going to stimulate anything - if you think people are going to go out and buy new appliances during a winter of outrageous home heating costs, you're crazier or dumber than even I thought. When you gave the rich a tax cut they all bought stuff - we can't, unless it's food, which doesn't show up in the "core" numbers anyway (CPI and PPI measurements don't take volatile food prices into account).
Anyway here's the video with lame Katie Couric -she won't be getting a refund, but I think her viewers should:
