Hyping the Weather: Another Example of a Culture of Fear

| , , ,

At what point in time did the weather become real news? Here in the Northeast every single snowstorm is reported like Armageddon itself. This isn't our first snowstorm in history people, remember last year when it snowed? Apparently the news stations do not and have to send out the reporters for "full coverage" of this strange frozen water falling from the sky!

For hours on mornings like this the local news has the reporters standing outside with their "News Team" parkas on and saying journalistic gems like this:

"Well Jim, it's still snowing outside and people are trying to shovel out their driveways. Just look at all this snow." then they will interview some yokel who add to the wisdom: "Yeah, well whatta ya gonna do, it's wintah." (done in a Boston accent) "Back to you Jim"

And this kind of drivel goes on all morning and then continues during the other News times during the day. Something happened in the rest of the world? Forget about that it's snowing aaaaaaah!!! My family used to go fishing on George's Bank in weather worse than this, but Mayor Menino of Boston is telling people to stay home if you can. I'm not that old and yet I remember when New Englanders took the snow with grace and didn't let it interfere with life - you know, like they were used to it or something.

Those days are gone now that we live in a Culture of Fear - if you're not scared of everything, then there is something wrong with you. And so now even the winter weather is something to fear, something to monitor on TV from the comfort of your home. Snow accumulation totals are far from conservative and Schools now cancel class before a single flake hits the ground.

The news stations who are over-hyping this weather think they are doing the right thing, informing the dumbasses out there how to handle snow. However what they are really doing is causing mass hysteria among the herd - want proof? Try and go grocery shopping the day before a snowstorm and you will see it firsthand - why does everyone buy milk and bread during snowstorms and hurricanes? Do they want us to make French Toast or something?

Hey for those of us who are not brain dead yet - a society that lives in fear is much easier to control. This kind of stuff is not innocent, there is an agenda and it's to wipe out the few remaining free-thinkers in America. If you can't handle a little snow than what can you handle?

I actually had an Argument with my daughter because, "The news said we are going to get a huge storm." So she didn't want to do her homework last night... I bet she is glad I made her finish it last night.
