Kenya Continues To Burn

| , , , , ,

Report in the Boston Globe this morning out of Ethiopia (a country that knows how civil strife can ruin a potentially prosperous nation) tells of how the African Union will attempt to calm the unrest in Kenya. Will the current organization do more for the continent than the former OAU (Organization of African Unity)? Only time will tell, but at least things are getting underway before the deathtoll reaches into the thousands - it stands at 850 as of yesterday.

I'm finally starting to see more than just a soundbyte from the television newsmedia about what is happening in Kenya. It's still not much but I noticed CNN giving it a little more airtime. I even heard them use the words "Ethnic Cleansing" yesterday. Huh, I bet there is some producer out there that didn't want to run anything on Kenya until the deathtoll hit a "magic number" or something. Everything in TV in America is based on ratings and advertisement spots, so if a story isn't "hot" or "sexy" or has "legs" then it is not covered long enough to hurt the station's bottom line. Good thing there's the Internet for a broader spectrum of news and opinion - my shortwave radio reception is terrible down here in the bunker.

In the meantime Crazy Britney's motercade to the looney bin looked like the Pope just got shot.
