Here is a raw video of Tibetans on horseback, like a band of Cossacks or even Pancho Villa riding into a remote village to declare their freedom from China. I am actually surprised this video made it out due to China's crackdown on media coverage in Tibet.
Regardless of where you stand on the Tibet question, you have to have respect for these guys as they face a nuclear power in China with horses, rocks and the occasional hunting rife. I'm not sure the Dalai Lama has anything to do with this - he does not need any involvement. Tibetans are frustrated and no amount of non-violent training and tradition can override the human compunction to defend themselves.
The Dalai Lama must seem more myth than reality to the generations born after his exile - without their spiritual leader in their homeland how much weight does the Dalai Lama's plea for peace have with people who face Chinese oppression everyday? If anything China's hardline stance on Tibet may be working against them - without a strong connection to Buddhism and non-violence - Tibetans are like any other oppressed group that eventually resorts to violence in order to be free.
