| Buddhism, China, Dalai Lama, faith, reincarnation, religion, Tibet
I feel that there is an inherent conflict of interests in having the Dalai Lama as both a spiritual leader and a political one in exile. He seems like a nice guy and I do believe that ethnic enclaves should be able to govern themselves, but the ruler ship of a nation is at odds with the basic tenets of Buddhism. Since the 1950's the Dalai Lama has been striving to return to his native Tibet as ruler of an independent state. That seems like a very "earthly" goal for a leader who represents the faith in the elimination of all earthly desires to achieve Nirvana.
Keep in mind, Siddartha - the original Buddha was a prince. What would the Buddha do if China occupied his kingdom? Nothing...he would do nothing because he would not be concerned with such trivial matters as property.
