Just when I thought I knew a bit about Hinduism, here comes this footage from Nepal of the Gadhimai festival. Good thing it is only held once every 5 years or there would be probably nothing to eat in Nepal. As many as hundreds of thousands of buffalo, chickens, pigs and goats were sacrificed with sharp old blades, their blood staining the ground. Do I think it wrong? Do I think it cruel? No not really, it is obviously part of traditional culture. But I certainly don't understand it...
So the cow is sacred, but Hindus say fuck the buffalo. And I want to know what happens to all the meat? Is it taboo to eat? After all, Nepal is not exactly a land of plenty and it seems a waste of protein.
Thousands of miles away, Americans are sharpening their knives for our own version of the festival - in which we slaughter hundreds of thousands of turkeys. The difference is we call it Thanksgiving and we actually eat what we kill.
